The jewel in the crown. Its freshness and minerality make it appetizing when young, but it can age for decades.

Harvest

The growing season began with an exceptionally warm spring, which saw early budding and flowering. The summer season has brought some of the hottest months in years. However, rustic Douro grapes adapt well to intense heat. These high temperatures naturally accelerated the harvest and the harvest took place earlier than normal. Fortunately, heavy rains fell just before the harvest, which brought welcome relief to the vineyards from the dry conditions. Although the 2020 vintage is much smaller than usual, the wines are likely to be of high quality due to their concentrated nature.

Winemaking

Foot trodden in granite mills for 3 or 4 nights, with careful temperature control. Aged in oak barrels for 24 months before bottling.
