Conceito Tawny 10 Years Old
Conceito's 10 Year Old Tawny is a wine that bridges the gap between two generations at the head of the house's destinies. A base of great tawnies conceived in the time of José da Costa Ferreira and his brother Luís da Costa Ferreira, it was aged for a long time in cement vats (curiously, a technique that today is again at the forefront of modern winemaking). Great-niece Rita Marques brought a new understanding to these wines, making the blend evolve very slowly, bringing a new freshness and richness, fine-tuning with lace fists the base that today is bottled as a modern tawny, with brightness and lightness, depth, complexity, pleasure.
Vineyards
Schist soils. Made with grapes from Quinta do Cabido, a family estate named so for its location, an inhospitable "hook" formed by the Teja stream in the parish of Numão, in a mountainous area about 300-400m above sea level, and dropping down to Vesuvio on the south bank of the Douro River, 3km away.
Vinification
Traditional Port Wine making, without destemming and with foot treading in granite presses. Two days of pre-fermentative maceration and three days of fermentation. The addition of grape brandy to the wine press, followed by a short fermentation and aging for 10 years.
