Still closed of aroma, the fruit contained but extremely beautiful and elegant, accompanied by nuances of underbush and heather, and a touch of smoke. Huge mouth presence, with great purity of fruit based on a solid texture, served by perfectly polished tannins and beautiful freshness. Subtlety and elegance, total harmony in a great red that reflects well the quality and balance of the harvest.
Vineyard
Schist soils. Made with grapes from old vines (80 years old) of Quinta do Cabido, an inhospitable "hook" formed by the Teja river, in the parish of Numão. There, an unusual schist mass forces the water to change course before flowing down towards the Douro River, and the bank forms a perfect natural amphitheater, facing south.
Vinification
Grapes hand picked into small boxes. Partial destemming, followed by crushing and pumping over into stainless steel vats. Temperature controlled fermentation, gentle pumping over, final maceration of one week. Malolactic fermentation in vats.
Aging
20 months in French oak barrels (50% new).
