Vista Alegre Vintage Port 1998 is a unique Portuguese wine of amazing quality. It is an exquisite blend of a variety of grapes, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão. The grapes are carefully hand-picked, and the winemaking process respects centuries-old traditions to ensure the highest possible quality.
The grapes are hand-picked in small baskets, and once a partial strip of the grapes is completed, they are trod by foot in old stone “lagares”. Temperature is carefully regulated during fermentation, and the wine is made using brandy (firewater) to stop the process. Vista Alegre Vintage Port 1998 is a wine with very big aging potential, and it can last over 30 years when stored under the right conditions.
This unique wine is black in colour, with juicy, dark berry aromas. Its body is medium, and it is characterized by immature tannins and an aggressive taste that finishes off nicely. It is fascinating to watch its evolution over time.
The bottle should be kept on its side, in a cool place away from direct light. In time, the wine may form some natural sediment in the bottle, so it should be carefully opened and decanted before being served. Once opened, the wine should be consumed on the same day, and it is best enjoyed at temperatures between 16º C and 18º C.
This port pairs nicely with strong cheeses, such as Stilton, Roquefort, Danish Blue and Portuguese Serra. It is also a great match for chocolate or fruit desserts, and can be served after a good cigar.
Vista Alegre Vintage Port 1998 contains sulphites.
