The grapes used for this Vintage Port are hand picked and come from a single harvest. The winemaking process follows the traditional way of making Port Wine. After a partial stripe of the grapes, they are trod by foot in old stone “lagares”, and the fermentation is temperature-controlled, being stopped by adding brandy (firewater). This Vintage Port has a very big aging potential, being able to last more than 30 years if stored under the ideal conditions.
Vista Alegre Vintage Port was made using a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão.
This port has a black colour and a very fruity and berry nose. It has a medium body and lots of tannins, but it is quite easy to swallow. It has a modern taste, with a nice finish.
Store the bottle in the horizontal position, at a constant temperature and away from intense direct light in order to keep its properties and aging potential intact. This Vintage Port is unfiltered, so it should be consumed in the same day after being opened. In order to appreciate its full potential, the wine should be decanted before being served at a temperature between 16º C to 18º C.
This Vintage Port goes very well with strong cheeses such as Stilton, Roquefort, Danish blue, Portuguese Serra, among others. It can also be served with fruit or chocolate desserts, or eventually a good cigar.
Vista Alegre Vintage Port 2009 contains sulphites.
