Introducing D. Graça Grand Reserve Sousão, a premium Portuguese wine crafted from the Sousão grape variety. This exceptional wine is made from grapes grown at an altitude of 170 meters, near the Douro River in Pocinho. The Sousão grape variety is known for its herbaceous character, which can sometimes overpower the wine's other flavors. However, the D. Graça Grand Reserve Sousão successfully conceals these herbaceous notes, focusing instead on the variety's vibrant acidity, powerful body, and attractive aroma, which together create a uniquely charming wine.
The 2015 wine year was characterized by hot and dry conditions, yet remained remarkably balanced due to timely rainfall in the right amounts. July and August saw mild temperatures with hot days and cool nights, which favored the maturation and balance of the grapes. This led to white and red wines with natural freshness, aromatic intensity, and outstanding elegance.
The D. Graça Grand Reserve Sousão's vinification process embraces minimalist technology, taking place in granite tanks with mechanical pressing, where the temperature is maintained at around 26ºC. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels, where it aged for twelve months, allowing it to develop its complex flavor profile.
D. Graça Grand Reserve Sousão is crafted entirely from the Sousão grape variety, showcasing the unique characteristics of this distinct Portuguese grape.
