Horácio Augusto Lourenço planted the first vineyards in the 1980s and laid the foundations for this dream, which is his. His son, Jorge Miguel Graça Lourenço, developed the viticulture, created the wines and structured the company as we know it today.
It is a story of passions, struggle, entrepreneurial capacity and a deep love for the land, which translates into a small family business with 45 hectares of vineyards and wine brands that are beginning to reach the four corners of the world.
VINILOURENÇO is situated in the small village of Poço do Canto, Meda council, in the heart of the Upper Douro. Since the 1980's the Lourenço Family has been acquiring various properties in the Upper Douro. Horácio Lourenço, after returning from Angola, idealized an imaginary triangle for the location of his vineyards.
In the early 2000's,Jorge Lourenço, only 18 years old, took on the responsibility of modernizing the 25 hectares of vineyard already planted, selecting new varieties to expand the vineyard area, and structuring the company to vinify the grapes and market the wines produced. In the last 10 years the company growth was unstoppable, fruit of the quality and originality of its wines, where the recovery of old Douro grape varieties forged the brand image and recognition of VINILOURENÇO. Currently the company has 45 hectares of vineyard, spread by the municipalities of Meda and Vila Nova de Foz Coa. The dispersion of the several vineyards parcels by Poço do Canto, Vale da Teja and Pocinho, with a great diversity of climate, soils and altitude between 160 and 700 m, of schist in the lower areas and schist/granite in the higher areas, allow the creation of very differentiated wines. The harvests last for more than a month and a half, but the distinctive behavior of the same varieties planted in different locations provides an enormous versatility of wine styles.
