The first historic references of Quinta da Pellada go back to the year of 1527. In that year the sum of 80 barrels of wine was paid, as a royal tax. Álvaro de Castro is a civil engineer who inherited this property in 1980, at the time he decided that to make something out of the estate, he had to give it full time attention. Rapidly the enthusiasm for the wine and viticulture made him decide to re-establish an old family tradition of winemaking, which had been broken for one generation.
The first wine label as Quinta de Saes came with 1989 vintage. In 2001, Álvaro's daughter Maria Castro, trained in oenology, who has always been closely linked to the state since her childhood, officially joined Quinta da Pellada. Since 2005 (after the death of Eng. Magalhães Coelho), we also count with the support of Bairrada's friend, Ataíde Semedo, and more recently with Tiago Félix. We are increasingly looking to make natural wines, with the greatest respect for nature. So that the particularity of each vineyard and parcel is noticeable in the wine it originates from.

Its elegance makes it seem lighter, but it is much more concentrated than the first taste suggests. It simply has a bright subtlety in the mid-palate. If the Pellada has echoes of Burgundy, so does this. It is full of flavor, tightly wrapped and beautifully constructed. It opens slowly and becomes more impressive all the time.
Intense garnet color. Bergamot in tea, violet in orange peel and berries with cocoa and vanilla. Very expressive, elegant with generous tannins. Very chewy and gastronomic.

In the mouth it perfectly combines character and elegance, with beautiful tannins served by excellent acidity, plenty of freshness in the long, firm, convincing and personalized finish. A great wine, of breed and terroir.
Sweet, pure, chocolate, lively aroma with vibrant red and black fruits. Elegant, but forward at the same time. The palate is rich with soft sweet fruit and good acidity. Well structured.
