Its elegance makes it seem lighter, but it is much more concentrated than the first taste suggests. It simply has a bright subtlety in the mid-palate. If the Pellada has echoes of Burgundy, so does this. It is full of flavor, tightly wrapped and beautifully constructed. It opens slowly and becomes more impressive all the time.
Vinification
The Alto Quinta da Pellada is aged for 28 months in fourth use French oak. This is one of a trio of wines from this edition that owner Álvaro Castro has released with old labels as an exercise in terroir. This is a field blend of the highest parcel (although by less than 10 meters - the differences are greater in the soil), the Casa is the "most exposed" nook, with a different soil type, and the "49" is the middle parcel.
