At Quinta de Valle Longo, the grapes are hand-picked for small baskets and are sourced from a single harvest. The winemaking process is conducted according to traditional Port Wine methods, with partial grape striping followed by trod-footing in old stone “lagares”. The fermentation is subjected to temperature control and is interrupted by the addition of brandy (firewater). This wine is designed for long-term aging, and if stored in ideal conditions, has the potential to be aged in the bottle for over 30 years.
Quinta de Valle Longo Vintage Port 2005 is composed of a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão.
The aroma of Quinta de Valle Longo Vintage Port 2005 are characterized by chemical notes and delicate floral balance, with hints of ripe fruit. The body is medium-sized, chubby but not too muscular, and is well-balanced. The wine has an average longevity and is sure to delight its drinker.
The bottle should be stored in a horizontal position in a cool, dark environment. As the wine ages, it may form natural sediment in the bottle. Therefore, it should be carefully opened and decanted before serving. This wine should be consumed on the same day as opening, as it is unfiltered. After the decantation process, the wine will reach its peak, gradually losing freshness over time. The ideal serving temperature is 16º C to 18º C.
Quinta de Valle Longo Vintage Port 2005 pairs perfectly with a variety of strong cheeses, such as Stilton, Roquefort, Danish blue, Portuguese Serra, and more. It can also be served with fruit, chocolate desserts, or a good cigar.
