Purple color and quite deep, very complex and distinctive aromas where initially predominates the fruity and floral character, characteristic of the variety, noting later some spicy hints of wood. In the mouth it shows fruit, complexity, great balance and harmony with high level tannins that give a long finish.
The grapes that gave origin to this wine come from two different plots of Sousão from the vineyard of Quinta de S. José, located in Cima Corgo, very close to the Douro River, with an altitude ranging from 150 to 300 meters. Exposed to the north and with very schistose soil.
Vinification and Aging
Grapes harvested by hand into 25kg boxes at their ideal point of ripeness, with the intention of having a vigorous ripening, leading to greater aromatic and polyphenolic concentrations. After gentle crushing and total destemming, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel vats and presses, allowing the quality constituents present in the grape skin to pass smoothly into the wine. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in new and used 400 liter French oak barrels for approximately 14 months.
