This wine has an intense yellow color and has fine and persistent bubbles. On the nose it reveals essentially tertiary vanilla aromas resulting from aging in barrels. In the mouth, it has a good balance between acidity and alcohol and reveals a creamy texture. The flavors are complex, very elegant and persistent.
Terroir
The grapes of Espumante Bruto Barrica come from vineyards planted in the Minho river valley, where there is greater exposure to the sun and where warmer temperatures will give rise, on the one hand to a more discreet aromatic component and, on the other, to a greater concentration of tannins and greater complexity. This is the perfect profile for barrel fermentation, where the complexity obtained by aging, also in barrel, stands out in relation to the aromatic intensity. The vineyards in Monção and Melgaço benefit from a very particular microclimate, where the mountains protect the grapes from the influence of the Atlantic.
Winemaking
The Alvarinho grapes are harvested by hand and are carefully selected. Primary fermentation takes place in used oak barrels, where the wine will age for 12 months. This stage gives the wine a more evolving and more intense aroma character, as well as more flavor and a lasting texture. Secondary fermentation then takes place in the bottle. The wine ages for 36 months in our cellar at a constant and low temperature. At the end of this aging process, disgorgement is carried out in order to remove the yeasts from the bottle and the metallic capsule is replaced by a traditional stopper made of Portuguese cork.
Follow-up Suggestion
Sparkling Brut Barrica is a unique sparkling wine that can accompany a variety of foods. Its complex flavor combines very well with red meat, goat and lamb, matured cheeses or with other intense dishes. Pairs beautifully with lighter foods such as cooked seafood or grilled vegetables.
