Terroir
The Monção e Melgaço region, located in the most northerly point of Portugal, is protected by a group of mountains that create a microclimate where precipitation, temperature and the number of hours of sun are in perfect harmony to provide the ideal maturation of the Alvarinho grapes. These grapes come from small vineyards planted in granite soil, at a higher altitude, allowing to obtain a strong expression of the characteristics of this variety.
Winemaking
At the end of alcoholic fermentation, when the wine has about 20 g of residual sugar, it is placed in the bottle, where it ferments the remaining sugars and gains the gas characteristic of sparkling wine. In this wine, disgorgement is not carried out, so the yeasts responsible for fermentation remain in the bottle. It differs from other sparkling wines in that the gas is the result of natural sugar from the first fermentation.
Follow-up Suggestion
The Soalheiro Sparkling Pet Nat Alvarinho 2020, according to its profile, does not need to be accompanied. It can be drunk alone, as an aperitif in a conversation between friends, in the late afternoon at a bar. It is also an excellent choice to enjoy with roasts and grills.
