Deep purple color. On the nose, it has a very young aromas of black wild berries, with some notes of black pepper, roasted coffee, damp earth and sweet tobacco. On the palate, a very nice, round red wine with flavors of wild berries, spices, and chocolate. Strength but appealing tannins with well-dosed acidity, and a persistent tannic finish.
This wine was made from the Alicante Bouschet grape, from the sub-region of Granja-Amareleja in the vintage of 2019. This is perhaps the most Portuguese variety amongst foreign grapes. It wasn’t born here but may find it in Alentejo, sometimes in over 100-year old vines. Commonly mixed with other grapes, Alicante bouschet produces intense, deeply colored drinks, adding volume, structure and resistance to the wine. Abundant and slow tears on the glass. It was aged for 6 months in American oak barrels, followed by a further 6 months in bottle.
