Casa do JOA
At 20 km from Bragança, we find Parada. A typical Transmontana village (belonging to the Portuguese region of Trás-os-Montes) whose name is etymologically associated with historical and geographical circumstances that have always made this place a ''stop'' spot.
Maybe this is the reason why, in Aldeia da Parada, time goes by very slowly: which is the perfect condition for Jorge Ortega Afonso (JOA) to return to this land (with his deep family roots) in order to, with time, rigor and dedication, fulfill his dream of rebuilding the House that will give life to his wines.
140 years of soil that gives us grapes from more than 20 different varieties, of schistose nature, and affected by wide temperature ranges, the Parada terroir is located at an altitude of 700 meters. It is a unique land that in other times offered a considerable amount of tin and tungsten and that now hosts ''ungrafted'' vines that are over 120 years old.
Due to its centennial age and the traditional processes of vine planting and grafting, it is possible to find different varieties in a single vine, making the winemaking process a true exercise in alchemy. The end result is a distinctive product, with a peculiar and very interesting complexity.
