TRUFA has a very concentrated and intense aroma, with notes of exotic fruit. In the mouth it is full-bodied, with notes of wild berries, with the tannins still very present, but of great quality. It is very complex, fresh, and persistent.
The name TRUFA (truffle) was chosen because there are several analogies between this wine and a truffle:
- Both come from the earth, are rare and exclusive.
- Both have a unique flavor and great quality.
- Both help to enrich and make a meal unique.
Vineyard
TRUFA is a wine produced with grapes from old vineyards (+ 60 years) of Quinta do Olival Velho, located on the left bank of the Douro River, between Régua and Pinhão. The schist soil vineyard has a blend of approximately 30 different native grape varieties, and is located between 300/350mts altitude with northern exposure, which gives the wine a great freshness. With an average yield of 250g/grape, these vineyards produce grapes of exceptional quality.
Vinification
After careful manual selection on the picking belt, the grapes were destemmed and fermented in a granite press with treading for 7 days.
Aging
After malolactic fermentation, the wine aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 40% new and the rest used.
