Vidigal Wines is a medium-sized, family-owned company that produces still and fortified wines, located in the Leiria region in Central Portugal. The origins of the company date back to the beginning of the 20th Century, on a farm founded by a Canon of the Church. Over the last century, the company has known a couple of owners, until the current Director, António Mendes Lopes - took over management at the beginning of the 1990s. Since that time, Vidigal has undergone major changes and technological advances that today allows it to produce about 3 million bottles per year. In terms of production, Vidigal Wines has established several partnerships in the Lisbon wine-growing region, representing a total of 450 hectares of vineyards. It also maintains several partnerships in other producing regions in Portugal, with a total of 7 regions: Lisbon, Tejo, Douro, Alentejo, Dão, Beiras and Vinho Verde. The vast majority of Vidigal wines, particularly those from the Lisbon wine region, are produced very close to the Atlantic Ocean - about 30km - and, as such, are greatly influenced by the Atlantic breezes, resulting in fresh wines that are always very fruity.
